Clear the dense pixel creature by carving away the outer red border and clearing layers down to the embedded keys. Manage the long-running linked purple box carefully to keep slots open.

How to beat Colony Flow! Level 172 — full solution
- Tap the linked Pink 45 and Red 40 pair on the front left, then the free Light Blue 40 box. Ants clear the exposed outer red and pink border blocks along the top and sides, opening initial space across the top.
- Tap the linked Pink 30 and Purple 101 pair from the middle, followed by the free Pink 50 box and Yellow 50 box on the right. Pink and yellow ants strip the upper corners and perimeter accents while purple begins chipping away at interior blocks.
- Tap the Green 20 box from the second row once it reaches the front. Green ants quickly remove exposed green patches along the bottom edges, clearing the Green box down to zero and reopening a slot.
- Tap the Light Blue 40 box and Dark Green 20 box as they become accessible in the front row. Light blue ants strip the outer wing trims and expose the yellow key resting inside the upper-right section of the picture.
- Tap the linked Pink 48 and Light Green 45 pair once the lane opens. Light green and pink ants work down through the face and wing details, exposing the blue key on the upper-left side.
- With the yellow key collected from the picture, the yellow padlock unlocks in the stack. Tap the unlocked Yellow 50 box to clear remaining yellow highlights around the creature's crest and eyes.
- With the blue key collected from the picture, unlock and tap the Blue lock box, then tap the Light Blue 50 box and Light Blue 45 box. Light blue ants clear the bulk of the monster's inner face and body.
- Tap the Dark Green 50 box and Light Green 40 box to strip away the remaining eye and brow blocks. The central counter block drops to zero, exposing the final purple and light blue remnants.
- Tap the linked Light Blue 44 and Pink 22 pair to send the final ants onto the board. They carry away the last few wingtips and pupil blocks alongside the Purple box as it reaches zero to finish the level.

- Tapping the linked Pink 30 and Purple 101 pair without free slots for fast-clearing boxes → Purple has 101 ants and stays in a slot for almost the entire level, risking an immediate slot jam if other boxes cannot clear.
- Unlocking the locked stack boxes before their key colours are exposed in the picture → the keys cannot be reached if perimeter red and pink blocks have not been stripped first.
Quick tips for Level 172
- Prioritize perimeter red and pink boxes first, because they guard both the blue and yellow keys embedded in the upper wings.
- Treat the slot holding the Purple 101 box as permanently occupied and play with effectively four free slots for most of the stage.
